Sclerotherapy

Many people --especially women--inherit vein disorders.  Doctors estimate that nearly 50 percent of the adult population in the U.S. will experience some form of vein disease, causing discomfort as well as an unsightly appearance on the skin.

Sclerotherapy is a treatment for spider veins and medium-sized varicose veins. Veins on the legs and other areas of the body can be bothersome and in some cases, they may be associated with venous reflux disease.

How to know if sclerotherapy is right for you

If you experience problems with varicose veins or spider veins, you might be a good candidate for sclerotherapy. Varicose veins are abnormally large blue veins that often bulge out from the skin, while spider veins are tiny blue, purple, or red branch-like veins that are often found on the legs. In severe cases, veins will cause pain or a debilitating condition.

How sclerotherapy works

During sclerotherapy, our aesthetician or surgeon injects a small amount of solution -- a sclerosing agent -- into the vein, which causes it to close and dissolve. Scar tissue covers the area and the vein will no longer be visible. Sclerotherapy is often combined with laser vein treatment. Multiple treatments with sclerotherapy may be necessary to achieve a satisfactory result.
