One of the most common breast procedures, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and reshape a woman's breast. The procedure can be helpful in enhancing the self-esteem and appearance of women who: feel their breast size is too small; seek to correct an imbalance in breast volume after pregnancy; want to correct an imbalance in breast size; or require breast reconstruction. In this procedure, saline implants are placed behind the chest wall muscle, usually through a small incision in the crease below the breast. This crease is referred to as the “inframmamary crease” where the breast meets the chest wall. Patients are typically uncomfortable for 2 to 3 days and can usually return to work within 4 to 7 days. More strenuous activities are usually resumed in 3-4 weeks. Scarring is typically minimal.
